Just downloaded it. It lives upto its name. IT ROCKS!!
How on earth did you get it installed? I have one of the 30 gig vidio IPODS, followed all of the instructions and at the end of it, was no further forward than when I first started. I'm clearly doing something wrong though heaven knows what.
Dan.
For rock box is there is a specific ipod you need to buy to use this? Also how much does rock box cost.
I checked it out. Rockbox is fre, and it works with certain IPod's, see RockBox.org for more. I don't have an MP3 player of any kind though so haven't had a reason to try it out.
Heres some quick step through step instructions on installing it and getting it working:
1. Go to www.rockbox.org and download the latest firmware for your iPod
note: it works on Ipod vidio 30 gig 5th gen, nano 1st gen any storage copasity, iPod 4g, greyscale or something like that, and way more ipods check it out.
it does not work on the iPod vidio 80 gig.
2. Download the manuals also!!!
3. Extract the .rockbox folder to your iPods main directory.
4. Download the latest bootloader for iPod (and make sure its for your ipod), then extract the bootloader file to the .rockbox file in your iPods main directory.
5. Hit enter on the bootloader exicutable. It should come up with a command prompt.
6. Type:
i
and hit enter. It used to be you would have to type like podcatcher:d/x.exe and it most likely wouldn't work. But now you just have to type i (I think for install).
7. Hit any key, or easiest just hit enter when it says its successfully installed.
8. Eject and unplug your iPod, then reset it. By puting it on hold for 6 seconds, and then holding the menu and select buttons at the same time until an apple appears or it starts up.
9. Download the fonts from the extra section on rockbox.org, and put them in the .rockbox folder in your iPod.
9. Finally download the voice file for rockbox by going to rockbox.org and going to extras, and voice files, choose the voice you want.
10. Rename the voice file to english.voice once it is extracted to some place on your computer. And copy it to your rockboxlangs and your set!!!
Hi again!! Lol.
If you can't see your iPod in my computer then do this:
1. Reset your iPod. By following the instructions above.
2. When it starts up hold down play+select to turn on disk mode. Note:
If you have iTunes, disk mode is only temporary. Meaning when you turn your iPod off or when you unplug it disk mode is no longer on. iTunes is the worst thing to have on a computer that your using with an iPod with rockbox. They interfeer alot!!
3. It should appear there.
More notes:
iTunes is the thing that interfeers with disk mode, and with transforing music. Get rid of iTunes if you don't need it for anything else.
hi again!!1

no rockbox does not work with the ipod shuffle. it doesn't need to. the shuffle is not menu based.
I use Roxkbox on an 80 GB iPod quite happily. Absolutely love it. Dan, or anyone else for that matter, who needs help installing, just PM or PQN me, and i'll give you my skype details and talk you through it.

funky monkey, you and I are already in contact, thanks for all of your help. I'd thought I'd come on here and write to see if anybody else may be having a similar problem. This is referring to uploading the bootloader onto my 80 GB ipod. The Ipod patcher says it does not find my ipod, and asks me to make sure it's in disk mode, and that the ipod is connected. I've varified these, and I even see the ipod drive in my computer. Anybody have any suggestions/solutions?
